Dandy Town’s hard-fought 2-1 win away to PHC Zebras was marred by harrowing scenes involving Drewonde Bascome who was stretchered off after experiencing breathing problems.

The Town midfielder was taken to the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital after lying on the pitch after a tackle for a worrying period of time while receiving treatment from both benches.

The 25-year-old was released from the hospital last night.

Breathing with the aid of an oxygen mask, Bascome was conscious as he was placed inside of an ambulance, with his team-mates applauding him as he left PHC Field.

The player’s unfortunate departure left Town with nine men having had Damon Ming sent off in the 87th minute.

Angelo Simmons, the Town captain, who scored his side’s first goal, said the team had dedicated the win to Bascome.

“We are all sad about what happened to him and hope he has a speedy recovery and will be on the field playing for us next week,” Simmons said.

Despite their numerical disadvantage, Town held on to move closer to an eighth Premier Division title, with coach Jomar Wilkinson’s side maintaining a nine-point cushion at the top.

“I think today everybody showed up for it,” Simmons added. “We went down to nine men but showed guts and determination to win as we try and get the league title.

“I just want to give my team credit for working for one another and staying focused on the game plan and trusting it, which worked as we came back from behind.”

Quadir Maynard scored Town’s winner while Cecoy Robinson, the PHC captain, opened the scoring for the home side.

Boulevard struck a dramatic winner against Hamilton Parish in stoppage time at Wellington Oval through Tiae-Vince Douglas to move six points away from the relegation zone.

Parish, the bottom team, were minutes away from a valuable win when Dunn-ya Taylor and Douglas turned the match around in sensational fashion with two late goals in the space of eight minutes.

The home side opened the scoring through Aaron Burgess.

“We pushed them both wide and it was a good cross from Famous before Coke laid it back,” Mikre Pace, the Boulevard assistant coach. said.

“I feel we succumbed to their type of football, trying to put all these long balls in. We didn’t play our football but as the game wore on we started to exert our dominance and play possession football and it paid off in the end.”

Second-place Robin Hood thrashed ten-man Southampton Rangers 5-1 at Goose Gosling Field. Nathan Peskett bagged a brace with strikes from Ereico Outerbridge, Antwan Russell and Mackih McGowan.

Sean Perinchief, the Rangers goalkeeper, was dismissed in the 27th minute, while player-coach Keith Jennings pulled a goal back for the visiting side.

Kyle Lightbourne, the Robin Hood coach, said: “It was a lot better than last week, albeit against different opposition. I thought we played very well and had already taken the lead before they had their goalkeeper sent off.”

Devonshire Cougars took apart Devonshire Colts at Devonshire Recreation Club, with braces from Kwame Steede and Chamari Burns, as well as a goal from Moses Steede.
