Tuzo and Pilgrim claim top honours

Selah Tuzo of Saltus Grammar School and Nicholas Pilgrim of Warwick Academy were the under-13 winners of the Middle Schools Cross-Country on Tuesday at the Arboretum.

Holly Bruton of Warwick Academy and Ryan Outerbridge of Clearwater Middle School claimed the over-13 titles.

Tuzo beat Jade Johnston of Saltus for the girls’ title, leading on all three laps, finishing in a time of 13 min 7.01 sec.

Johnston clocked 13:55.05 while Jessica Bruton of Warwick Academy was close behind in third place in 13:59.30.

Saltus took the school title in the under-13 girls with 33 points while Bermuda High School was second on 55 points and Somersfield Academy third on 82.

Pilgrim beat Nirobi Smith Mills of Saltus by 20 seconds to win the under-13 boys’ title, breaking the tape in 12:01.85 while Smith Mills finished in 12:21.82. Sancho Smith of TN Tatem Middle School was third in 12:26.56.

Saltus also won the boys’ under-13 title with 58 points while Warwick Academy was second on 62 and Whitney Institute third on 79 points.

Bruton won the over-13 girls, clocking 13:28.75 while Jessie Marshall of Saltus was second in 13:54.48 and Kayla Raymond of Mount Saint Agnes third in 15:12.70.

Warwick were the over-13 girls’ school winners on 43 points while Saltus, with 54 points, placed second. Bermuda High School, who picked up 89 points, were third.

Outerbridge won the over-13 boys’ title in 11:48.22, as Whitney pair Iziah Tucker and Clevonte Lodge finished second and third in 12:13.82 and 12:32.27, respectively. Whitney won the school title on 23 points, ahead of Clearwater, 75, and Saltus, 84.
