Casino site designation process opens

Appplications process: Richard Schuetz, executive of the Bermuda Casino Gaming Commission

The Designated Sites application process has been officially opened today, according to Richard Schuetz, executive director of the Bermuda Casino Gaming Commission.

Property owners who want to build an integrated resort casino or a casino on an existing tourist resort must apply to have the property listed as a designated site before seeking a casino licence.

Mr Schuetz said he could not say for sure how long any applications will take to process, saying that more complex applications would take longer.

“This is kind of a first step, but we will make it as expeditious a process as we can,” he said.

Alan Dunch, chairman of the commission, said: “We are pleased to begin this process of introducing integrated resort casinos onto Bermuda to secure the public policy directives of the Gaming Act, which is to secure enhanced employment for Bermudians and increased investment onto the Island.

“We believe that a well-regulated commercial gaming experience will increase the tourism appeal of Bermuda, providing the Island with a common and expected amenity by the global tourist market.”

Application forms and guidance notes can be collected at the commission’s office on Church Street. If a party is wishes to have applications mailed to them, they are advised to call the commission’s office at 400-2100
