Ballers and Flyboys reach semi-finals

The International Ballers and Flyboys booked their places in the Summer Island Basketball league semi-finals with victories at Somersfield Academy on Wednesday night.

The International Ballers beat Hoopstars 61-43 in their quarter-final. The game started out with low intensity on both sides, but picked up when Johnathan Lugo hit three three-pointers in a row as Ballers took a 32-16 lead into the break, with Lugo contributing 14 points for his team.

In the second half, Omar Dill dropped 20 points for Hoopstars. However, despite more than doubling their score in the second half, Hoop Stars could not keep up with their opponents’ intensity.

Ballers’ Dean Jones contributed 22 points to his team’s victory. Flyboys beat Sky Force 54-42 in the second quarter-final of the evening. Both teams were eager to get on the board but were unable to drop most of their shots. The first half ended with a low score of 18-15 for Sky Force.

In the second half, both teams picked up the pace. With seven minutes left, Flyboys were winning by one point. At the end of a close match and an exciting battle, Sky Force were unable to keep up with Flyboys. Akil Smith was the leading scorer with 25 points for Flyboys.

Twisters take on Crossfire tomorrow at 7.30pm and top seed Thundercats face Redraiders at 9pm before Sunday’s semi-final. The third-place match and final take place on Wednesday.
