Shares of Butterfield Bank fell 2.3 per cent on light volume in Bermuda Stock Exchange trading.

The bank fell $1.05 to close on $44.20 as 641 shares changed hands.

Butterfield’s American-listed shares moved in the opposite direction, gaining 58 cents, or 1.3 per cent, to close in New York on $45.64.

Butterfield’s fall caused The Royal Gazette/BSX Index to fall 47.22 points, or 1.85 per cent, to close on 2,502.92.

The BSX Insurance Index fell 8.63 points, or 0.45 per cent, to close on 1,918.05.
