Butterfield shares slide 5% on BSX

Bank boost: Butterfield shares rose for a third successive trading day on the BSX

Shares of Butterfield Bank tumbled 5 per cent in Bermuda Stock Exchange trading, on a day when Argus Group and One Communications also lost ground.

The bank shed $2 to close on $38, as 10,135 shares changed hands. Butterfield’s US-listed shares also dipped 69 cents, or 1.77 per cent, to close on $38.25.

Insurer Argus fell back 14 cents, or 4.3 per cent, to close on $3.11 as 10,000 shares traded.

One, the telecommunications group, fell eight cents, or 2.2 per cent, to close on $3.11 on the trading of 887 shares.

The only stock to climb was BF&M. The insurer climbed 17 cents, or 1.1 per cent, to $15.02 as 1,000 shares changed hands.

Ascendant Group, owner of power utility Belco, close d unchanged on $21 as 2,346 shares traded.

The Royal Gazette/BSX Index fell 92.55 points, or 3.85 per cent, to close on 2,309.37.

Total volume was 24,368 shares, while turnover topped $482,250.

The BSX Insurance Index gained 2.78 points, or 0.18 per cent, to close on 1,565.98.
