The most important thing is ... just do it!

Push yourself: even if you are uncertain about your fitness routine, hit it with vigour, intensity and really go for it

We are all familiar with the phrase, “just do it”.

Yesterday, I was preparing to run and noticed that I was out of water. Immediately, thoughts of running later came to mind, however I realised that “later” might never happen.

So, I decided to go ahead and just do it. It turned out to be an enjoyable run that may have not been perfect, but it was definitely rewarding.

All too often we paralyse ourselves by either over-analysing our fitness or making excuses to not work-out. We are so inundated with suggestions and work-out theories in the media that sometimes we choose to do nothing or very little because of so much confusion. Often we are concerned that our exercise programme isn’t ideal, or that we are missing out on a magical piece of the puzzle.

A personal trainer is a fabulous option to have for extra motivation and can help you maximise your efforts and teach you the proper form; however, you don’t need one to get results. When it comes down to it, the most important thing you can do is to just do it! Even if you are uncertain about your fitness routine, hit it with vigour, intensity and really go for it. You will get favourable results if you are sensible with your diet by eating healthy, clean foods and limiting overindulgences. Try cutting out the late nights so your body can rest. Minimise your alcohol intake to truly see results. Your body fat will lower and you will notice the physical and mental changes. It really is that simple.

There’s truly no magic pill or solution to get in shape. Find a gym or class and push yourself to stay consistent. The secret to fitness or weight loss is not kept under lock and key. It is open and accessible to anyone. When you work out, bust it out and push harder each and every time! Your body will have no choice whatsoever but to progress.

Anyone who has ever been successful started at the bottom and clawed their way up through determination and desire, not a secret weapon that only they had access to.

So, pack your phone away and head out for your workout. Just do it even if you don’t feel like it — that’s the hardest and most important thing. If you’re out of shape, the first six months will be brutal. You’ll wonder why you’re even bothering. It will seem hopeless. But just get out of bed and keep going. At a certain point, it will become a habit and you’ll wonder what you did with that time before. After that, you’ll start looking forward to it.
