Students given advice from entrepreneurs

Business brains: Young businessmen Jamie Lovell, and Alex Marshall of Team Oni Racing Club, with teachers and pupils at the Berkeley Institute after delivering a seminar on how to succeed in business

The young entrepreneurs behind a range of electric scooters and motorbikes yesterday hosted a special business seminar for senior pupils at Berkeley Institute.

Jamie Lovell and Alex Marshall of Team Oni Racing Club spoke to senior pupils at the school in Pembroke.

Mr Marshall said: “It was an exciting opportunity to educate the youth on possible career paths to pursue and inspire them to follow their dreams.”

He added the pair discussed the process of choosing an idea, and how to develop a successful business model, then implementing it.

“They had a great time and they got feedback on their own ideas.

“It was very informative and educational and gave ideas about alternative career paths.

“The teachers want us to come back for an even bigger seminar.”

He said Berkeley staff told the duo they would be contacting the Department of Education to see if they could be lined up to visit other schools on the island.

After the seminar, TORC displayed and held a lesson on the operations of their electric sport bike and electric scooter technologies, allowing students to get hands on and test ride the new TORC X Cell electric street bike and TORC Fuse Eco scooter.

Mr Marshall said: “This gave us the opportunity to teach what it entails to follow through on a product from concept to manufacture of a high quality finished good.

“The bikes are some of the latest innovative products available.”

He added: “Both offer the benefit of needing no gas and are significantly cheaper to run via charging and maintain than conventional gas bikes.”

Mr Marshall said that any other institution interested in sharing the experience of setting up TORC should e-mail torc@oniracing.com or visit the website at www.oniracingclub.com.
