Entrepreneur Chris Phillips believes he is the first Bermudian to launch a smartphone ‘deal saver app’ on the island.

It is called Dealio and it helps retailers promote their stores and showcase their latest deals. For consumers it allows them to stay in the loop for new promotions from their favourite shops and businesses.

The phone app was registered this year and Mr Phillips is optimistic about its potential to keep Bermudians shopping locally, which he said will in turn help improve the local economy.

One hundred consumers registered the first day the app launched, and that has quickly grown to 160.

“I have decided to take a bet on Bermuda, and hopefully Bermudians will take a bet on me at the same time. If I can solve my issues as a professional consumer, I figure I can solve a lot of issues within the economy,” said Mr Phillips.

The app was designed for retailers and consumers to keep local businesses growing in Bermuda.

Mr Phillips also hopes it will inspire more locals to start businesses and create apps.

He said: “I would love to inspire more apps to be created in Bermuda. I am a geek; I love apps.”

Dealio is available from the Apple app store and Google Play. It costs nothing for consumers to register. There is a financial structure for retailers allowing them to choose from three different tiers, which range in price from $33 to $99 a month, depending on how many deals they want showcased a month.

A notification feature sends an alert through the app about deals available at stores, and using the phone’s location will send an alert to a customer when they are within half a kilometre of a sale item they have previously indicated an interest in.
