Call for hosts of Airbnb Experiences

Entrepreneurs who want to set up a Bermuda “experience” for Airbnb visitors to the island are urged to get their applications in by February 15.

The idea is to offer visitors a distinct journey into Bermuda’s way of life, through unique activities designed and led by inspiring locals, according to the Bermuda Tourism Authority.

“These activities dive deeper than a typical tour or excursion and provide an opportunity for anyone to share their hobbies, passions, skills, or expertise, regardless of whether they are an existing Airbnb home host,” the BTA explained.

The island will be the fifth destination in the region to introduce Airbnb Experiences; the others are Cuba, Puerto Rico, Jamaica and Martinique.

The inaugural group of hosts will benefit from increased exposure during the official launch of Experiences on the island, scheduled for next month.

There are no start-up costs involved in becoming an Experience host, and they can set their desired rate. Airbnb collects a small service fee in exchange for connecting local hosts with the platform’s community of travellers from around the world.

While the rolling application to become an Airbnb Experience host is available year-round, the Bermuda Tourism Authority and Airbnb is encouraging people to sign up before the end of next week in order to participate in the launch, which is scheduled for early March.

The online application can be completed by visiting the Airbnb website at www.airbnb.com/host/experiences. In addition, more information is available from the BTA website at www.gotobermuda.com/bta. Click on Related Media to read an Airbnb Experiences handout.
