Banks announce limited opening hours

Banks are to open their doors for one day a week to offer limited retail banking services. The initiative is designed primarily to assist seniors and other vulnerable members of society. The Bermuda Bankers Association has obtained approval from Curtis Dickinson, Minister of Finance, for the banks to have the limited opening opportunities to support “vulnerable” customers under the Shelter in Place, state of emergency conditions due to Covid-19.The details for each bank are as follows:Butterfield Bank will open tomorrow, and on Friday, April 17, and then each subsequent Friday should the Shelter in Place order by extended by the government.• Bank security to be present at all locations to manage queues and maintain social distancing; • Staff will have gloves and masks;• Customers will have to wash or sanitise hands thoroughly before entering building.Hours of business are:• Somerset and St. George’s branches: 9am-noon• Rosebank Temporary Banking Centre: (seniors only) 9am-4pm• Reid Street and electronic banking (Surnames ending in A-L between 9am-12.30pm; M-Z between 12.30—4pm)Services available are cheque cashing, cheque deposits, cash deposits through No-Wait Deposit depository, card collection, and statement production. Bermuda Commercial Bank will open tomorrow, and on each Thursday thereafter.• One customer in the branch at a time and one to wait in the entrance vestibule.Hours of business at the Bermudiana Road branch: 9am-noonServices available: cash, cheque deposit, credit card payments and card pick-up.Clarien will open tomorrow and Thursday, April 16.• By appointment only and clients are to contact the Service Centre at 296-6969 to make the appointment.Hours of business are 9am-10am (seniors only), and 10am-noon (all clients).Services available will be emergency cash withdrawal for deserving cases, debit card pick up, collections of tokens, wire and local bank to bank transfers for customers who have do not have Clarien iBank access or problems with tokens, and any other emergency needs.Clarien employees will wear protective gear and follow CDC safety guidelines. All clients are also asked to wear personal safety gear, which may include homemade facial masks. The bank said clients in need of other urgent services should contact the Clarien Service Centre. If appropriate, it will arrange an appointment time for the emergency services outlined as follows at its Hamilton branch: 1, Emergency cash withdrawal for deserving cases; 2, Debit card pick up; 3, Collection of tokens; 4, Wire and local bank to bank transfers for customers who do not have Clarien iBank access or have problems with tokens; 5, Any other emergency needs. For additional assistance, clients should contact the Client Service Centre on 296-6969 or e-mail ServiceCenter@clarienbank.com. The Client Service Centre is available Monday through Friday, 8.30am to 5pm. In a statement, Clarien added: “We appreciate that Clarien provides an essential service to our community. We will make best efforts to respond to emergency situations and client requests, however, the health and safety of employees are our top priority. Clients should expect delays and/or an inability for the bank to perform non-essential transactions that cannot be completed at an ATM, No-Wait Deposit and/or iBank.” HSBC will open its Somerset and St George branches, and the HSBC Harbourview on Front Street branch, tomorrow and Thursday, April 16.• It will institute social distancing guidelines and encourage customers to follow the government’s revised guidelines with regards to masks and will encourage as many transactions to take place outside the banking hall as possible.Hours of business are 9am-10am (dedicated to seniors), and 10am to noon (all others).Services available will be cheque cashing and cash withdrawals for non-debit card holders, cash deposit through the quick deposit channels, debit and credit card collection, the collection of HSBC security devices to enable online banking, and statement printing to enable submissions for Bermuda Government unemployment support.In a statement, the bank added that given Bermuda Government pension cheques were made available to seniors on April 3, “our most vulnerable citizens may urgently need to avail themselves of deposit and withdrawal services. We therefore ask that all customers strictly observe the 9am to 10am scheduled dedicated time for seniors, as well as social distancing norms”.In addition, HSBC Bermuda continues to remind customers that HSBC ATMs and online banking services are available to the public. The HSBC Bermuda Contact Centre is available to support our customers during normal business hours. If customers are experiencing financial difficulties, the bank said it would like to remind them to proactively contact their banking Relationship Manager. The number to call is 299-5959 for assistance or send an e-mail to hsbc.debt.relief@hsbc.bm.
