Man plans to fight back over dog fine

Irate neighbours and a persistently barking dog have landed a Warwick man with a $600 fine in Magistrates’ Court.

But John Silveira, 55, of Cobbs Hill Road, vowed to respond with a grievance of his own.

Crown counsel Jaleesa Simons told the court that Silveira’s dog, a female Belgian Malinois, had annoyed neighbours around Tribe Road No 4 with constant noise from the vacant lot where it was being kept.

A complaint was made to animal wardens in November, and the defendant warned that a complaint would be submitted to the ministry if the matter were not resolved.

Saying he had worked too hard to spend money in court, Silveira pleaded guilty — telling magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo: “I have nothing to say — now it’s my turn to make a complaint.”
