Man remanded for New Year’s Day attack

A man was charged yesterday with an attack that landed a senior in an overseas hospital.

Alvin Leverock, 40, was accused of causing grievous bodily harm to Herndon Smith with intent to disable him on New Year’s Day on Reid Street in Hamilton.

Mr Leverock, of no known address, did not enter a plea, as the case must be heard in Supreme Court.

Mr Smith, 70, has been sent abroad for treatment to head injuries. Magistrate Tyrone Chin remanded Mr Leverock in custody.
