Bridge draw first blood in T20 warm-up

Somerset Bridge beat First Division rivals Devonshire Recreation Club by three-wickets in an exciting Twenty20 friendly that went right down to the wire at White Hill Field yesterday.

Bridge dismissed the visiting side for 83 all out in 19.5 overs and then reached their target on the last ball of their innings.

The home side required one run off the final ball of the match which they achieved with top scorer Ezekiel Greenwood, 26, and Noel Woods, eight, unbeaten at the crease.

Off spinner Levar Talbot and seam bowler Jamie Smith, who claimed 41 wickets between them last season, took two for nine and two for 18 for the visiting side, respectively.

Earlier Jermaine Salaam, the off spinner, claimed four for 15 as Devonshire were restricted under 100 runs on the spacious White Hill pitch after electing to bat.

Woods, Torleair Caines and Clarence Trott claimed two wickets each to assist Salaam in the bowling attack.

Bridge finished last in the First Division last season while Devonshire came up short in their bid for promotion after losing to Willow Cuts, the Western Counties champions, by five-wickets in a promotion-relegation play-off battle at Sea Breeze Oval.

The new season starts with opening T20 matches at Sea Breeze Oval and White Hill Field this Sunday.
