Bermuda-flagged tanker ship struck by missile
A Bermuda-flagged tanker ship carrying natural gas out of the Strait of Hormuz has been struck by a missile but no injuries have been reported and its power has been restored, the transport ministry has confirmed
The ship, Gaslog Shanghai LNG, suffered damage to its engine room and was rendered inoperable off the coast of Oman, according to several newsreports.
It is not known who conducted the attack and, according to the UK Maritime Trade Operations, no injuries or casualties were reported.
The 935-foot Gaslog Shanghai LNG picked up a shipment of liquid natural gas from Qatar on July 27, but reported being struck about 12.7 miles northeast of Oman on Friday, at about 11.30pm local time.
A spokeswoman for the Ministry of Tourism and Transport, Culture and Sport, said: “The ministry can confirm that the GasLog Shanghai is registered in Bermuda with the Bermuda Shipping and Maritime Authority.
“The vessel was struck by an unknown projectile, creating an approximately one-square-metre hole around four metres above the waterline. There has been no ingress of water and the incident remains under investigation.
“The BSMA is in direct contact with the UK Maritime Security Division and the UK Maritime Coastguard Agency. The UK authorities are utilising their foreign offices and resources in the region to provide assistance and support.
“All crew members are safe and accounted for and no injuries or fatalities have been reported.
“The ship has restored its power and is awaiting assistance for towage. The first course of action is to fully assess the damage and undertake the necessary repairs.

The strike came as a war continued between Iran, which controls the Strait of Hormuz, and Israeli and US military forces.
Iran, which has backed the Lebanese Hezbollah and the Yemeni group Houthis, has threatened the safety of ships crossing the strait.
In turn, the Houthis have threatened shipping in the the Bab-el-Mandeb Strait, between Arabian peninsula and Africa.
Among the recent attacks was a tanker waving a Liberian flag, which reported narrowly missing a missile on July 25.
