Douglas puts on a show for St David’s

Doing the damage: Allan Douglas Jr

Allan Douglas Jr produced a brutal fireworks display with the bat to guide St David’s to a six-wicket win over St George’s in the One 50 Premier Division at Lord’s yesterday.

The middle-order batsmen hit five sixes and a four in an unbeaten knock of 41 from just 16 balls and along with Delyone Borden added 41 runs for the third wicket that carried the home side to the brink of victory.

Douglas and George O’Brien knocked off the remaining 13 runs required for victory as St David’s reached their target of 92 in 13.4 overs. Opening batsman Borden, who gathered 34 from 43 balls, was the only other St David’s batsman in double figures. Opening bowler Onias Bascome accounted for all of the St David’s wickets to finish with figures of four for 25.

Earlier, St George’s struggled to build meaningful partnerships and keep the runs flowing before being dismissed for 91 in 27 overs after electing to bat.

Opener Mishael Paynter, who gathered 22 from 32 balls, and middle-order batsman Onias Bascome, who added 25 from 37 balls, were the only St George’s batsmen in double figures.

O’Brien was the pick of the St David’s bowling as he claimed four for 14 while Douglas claimed three for ten.

Meanwhile, the match between Western Stars and relegated Somerset Cricket Club at St John’s Field ended in a tie.

Somerset, who played with only nine men, scored 105 all out in 33.4 overs with deputising captain Greg Maybury top scoring with 37 from 43 balls batting at No 3.

Isaiah Richardson, son of former Stars slow left-arm bowler Wayne “Spike” Richardson, chipped in with an unbeaten 22 from 36 balls and Alje Richardson, the son of Somerset coach and former Stars batsman Jeff Richardson, 18 from 61 balls at the top of the order.

Rohan Davis was the pick of the Stars bowling attack with four for 24, while Tybrace Robinson claimed two for 13.

Stars also found runs hard to come by with opener Seth Campbell, who scored 23 from 48 balls, and wicketkeeper Jekon Edness, 35 from 49 balls, the only two batsmen in double figures. Stars were firmly on course for victory at 98 for five before a late collapse reduced them to 105 for nine.

Khiry Furbert, the No 11, left the ground and did not return, leaving the home side a man short and the scores level.

Azar Morrissey led the Somerset bowling with four for five while opening bowler Maybury took two for 26 and Alje Richardson two for four.
