Sabir ensures Warwick survive scare
Lord’s (Bermuda Under-19s won toss): Warwick Workmen’s Club (10pts) beat Bermuda Under-19s by three wickets
Warwick Workmen’s Club secured their second win of the season over Bermuda Under-19s and third overall at Lord’s on Saturday.
Lorenzo Tucker’s team restricted the under-19s to 162 for six. Warwick replied with 163 for seven.
Wicketkeeper Ajani Lee dominated a match-winning eighth-wicket partnership of 39 with Elijah Lowe-Anderson and stroked the winning runs from a Ori Wilson no-ball to secure Warwick’s win with two balls to spare.
Earlier, Logan Jones (29), Jarryd Richardson (39) and Jermel Proctor (48 not out) led an impressive fightback after the under 19s slipped to 27 for two.
The under-19s also profited from the generous 24 in extras Warwick conceded that included 16 wides.
Captain Staphen Dill, Torleair Caines, Cory Burgess, Jamar Stovel and Dominic Sabir took a wicket apiece for Warwick.
In reply, Warwick got their run chase off to a horrendous start after being reduced to 73 for five.
However, Sabir came to the rescue with a vital and timely knock of 65 from 41 balls that included seven fours and two sixes.
The all-rounder, who is also a member of the Bermuda Under-19 squad, dragged Warwick to within sight of victory before Lee and Lowe-Anderson finished the job.
“It’s good to see our character showed and we came through to get the victory,” Warwick captain Dill said.
“This was one of the better victories we’ve had.”
As for Sabir’s fine knock, Dill added: “It was good to see the youngster [Sabir] bat responsibly and with maturity.”
• Seion Darrell produced an all-round display to inspire Western Stars to a 48-run win over Somerset Bridge at White Hill Field on Saturday in a match reduced to 11 overs because of rain.
The opener hit 65 from just 29 balls, which included seven sixes and four fours, as Stars piled up an impressive 131 for two after being sent into bat.
Darrell dominated an 84-run opening stand with Jaiden Manders, who chipped in with 32 from 26 balls, before Khiry Furbert, the Stars wicketkeeper and captain, belted 27 from just ten deliveries.
Sharye Tavares and captain Joshua Gilbert claimed the only Stars wickets to fall.
Darrell also led the Stars’ bowling attack with figures of two for three off just four balls as Bridge were skittled out for 83 in 10.4 overs in reply.
Tavares was the only Bridge batsman in double figures with 36 from 22 balls that included three sixes and as many fours.
Seth Campbell, Rohan Davis, Dante Wellman and Manders also claimed two wickets.
