Rodriguez and Casanova enjoy strong start

Up and over: Truran, riding Roseland, clear a fence at the RES Spring Show No 1 at the National Equestrian Centre

Michael Rodriguez, riding Casanova, enjoyed a superb debut at the RES Spring Show No 1 at the National Equestrian Centre last weekend.

The series hunter/jumper/equitation shows are open to adult and junior riders competing for series championships in various divisions by accumulating points over the two shows.

Casanova, owned by Kristy Rego, won the Low Hunter Handy Horse Over Fences and Low Hunter Under Saddle events, while Let’s Play ridden by Carla Stempel claimed the blue ribbon on the Low Hunter Horse Over Fences.

Casey Truran riding De La Vega dominated the Junior Hunter Horse division, winning both the Junior Hunter Horse Over Fences and Under Saddle, while Kristen Bean claimed first place in the Junior Hunter Handy Horse Over Fences.

In the Working Hunter Horse division there was multiple winners with Philip Correia on Emerson, Rabain on Midori WF and Nick DeCosta on Forza all claiming a blue ribbon.

In the Hunter Pony division, Wintermint being ridden by Amber Bridges won first place in the Under Saddle class; Gemini being ridden by Emma Stegmann claimed blue in the Handy Over Fences with Nicholas Lopes on Don’t Blink the winner of the Hunter Pony Over Fences.

In the jumper and equitation classes, Casey Truran enjoyed a clean sweep in the 15-18 years old equitation division.

In the 12-14 year old division, Kelsey Amos claimed blue Over Fences, while the Under Saddle class went to Christian Truran.

The under 12 division saw Camryn Lines winning the Over Fences class and Jess Hosier winning the Flat class.

Cody Rego won first in the Short Stirrup Division Flat class, while Emily Cox won the Over Fences on her horse Franklin.

In the ten years and under division, Jaden Johnston achieved first in the walk/trot equitation with Courtney Sims gaining blue in the walk/trott.

In the Hunt Club classes, Melody Greenslade won the Hunt Club Hack on Worth the Wait, owned by Courtney Bromby — another newcomer to the island — and Ellidh Redmond claimed blue in the Ladies Hunt Club Hack and finally, Bermuda’s very own Hunt Club Master, Ann Lindroth completed the Hunt Club Obstacle Course to claim top honours.

Kelsey Amos won the three feet three inches; Philip Correia won the three feet six inches after an jump off.

The closing class of the day saw four entries compete in the three feet and 11 inches with Vicki Steele on All In One winning first place after a jump off class against Dale Rochester on Carolina Gold.

The next in the RES Series takes place on March 11 and 12.
