New bridge is the answer to enhance St George’s

Watford Bridge

Dear Sir,

I wholeheartedly agree with Kenny Bascome in St George’s parish; they need their own fire service and police station.

Remember, the town of St George is a World Heritage Site.

At present, we have problems with traffic control at the swing bridge.

A new bridge such as the one at Somerset’s Watford Bridge would be the answer on top of the footings of the old Severn Bridge in St George’s and dismantle the old bridge structure altogether.

I’m sure that repairing the swing bridge will be costing the Government thousands of dollars. That waterway would assist all marine traffic with a higher bridge. Ferry boats coming from Dockyard would be better off if they could use the Ferry Reach waterway instead of going all around the outside of St George’s, especially in inclement weather. This idea would assist the Biological Station with its fleet of watercraft as well.

As I have written in a Letter to the Editor in the past, let’s get our Causeway roadway sorted out with a new style of bridge improvement to assist with a new airport building.

A replacement bridge on stilts like Watford Bridge in Somerset is the answer to the Causeway problems.

Hurricane Fabian some years ago gave the Causeway a lot of damage; now Nicole gave the Causeway another slamming. What are we waiting for?

I say, if we can’t replace it with a stilted bridge because we don’t have any money in the kitty to replace it, let’s approach the British Government about the situation.
