My eternal thanks to Adam Zacharias for drawing my attention to the recent Times 20-page supplement on Bermuda. It is jam-packed with useful information and beautiful pictures of our island home.

One of the amazing things I learnt was that Bermuda actually has independence.

I have lived here since 1964 and have never been told that.

Elizabeth Grice writes: “In 1957, Britain granted independence to its oldest colony.”

Really? Have we all missed something?
