Just wondering about the American spelling

Labour Day: marchers with their banners (Photograph by Akil Simmons)

Dear Sir,

The last time I looked, Bermuda was still a British Protectorate. However, on the front page of today’s The Royal Gazette (September 6) there is a photograph of a lady holding up a placard that reads “Labor for Self”. Why the American spelling and not the English “Labour”?

Just wondering...
