No mention of bronze?

Clarence Hill

Dear Sir,

The Olympic Wall of Fame is now in place at the National Sports Centre, the most appropriate location. It is pleasing to view the names of all those dedicated men and women who have represented Bermuda over the years.

I am disappointed, however, to see that there is not a section dedicated to Bermuda’s Olympic medal-winners, notwithstanding that we have only one.

Clarence Hill appears in alphabetical order under the Olympic Games heading “Montreal Olympics 1976” and under the sport heading “Boxing”. There is no mention of “bronze medal”.

It seems in order to give Mr Hill a little extra recognition than the other competitors. His name has been painted with what seems to be gold-coloured paint, which doesn’t really stand out as clearly as all the other names anyway.

Does this different colour mean something? Someone may wonder in years to come.

If there is not to be a special section for past and future medal-winners, then at least the category and colour of the medal won can be engraved alongside the name of the winner.

For now, let’s start with Clarence Hill (Heavyweight Bronze Medal). Maybe before the unveiling on October 15, 2016 would be nice.
