AC35 was an electrifying ride

Journey: Mustafa Ingham

Dear Sir,

I would like to say thanks to Grant Gibbons for spearheading the 35th America’s Cup in Bermuda. The atmosphere has just been electrifying and so exciting. Bermuda has come alive again.

God has surely blessed us with a most beautiful island. He even sent us a few showers to make the grass and shrubbery a beautiful green.

The water was so sparkling and clear, the turquoise colour was mind-blowing. I even caught sight of David Burt in the Village looking quite happy. I can say a great time was had by all.

A special thanks to Laura Cutler, the Team BDA manager, who went the extra mile and then some. Thanks to the trainer, the coaches. You all worked tirelessly, I can say for all the parents of Team BDA that we appreciate you and thank you for the time that you put in with our charges. Words can never express our gratitude.

To Mustafa, we love you. Thanks for taking us along for the ride. So many cold and wet mornings, you would get up and would have to brave the elements. Shomari [Warner] would pick you up and off you would go to the gym, and then to Laura’s house where she would have breakfast prepared. Then on to the sailing programme; at the end of the day, you would have used up between 2,500 and 3,500 calories. Usually you would be in bed by 8pm.

I once asked you how you were holding up to this rigorous training. You told me that you felt like you were on top of the world when you were sailing.

Life now begins in earnest. After having such a great start, we know that whatever path you and your team-mates choose, you will continue to be successful. I wish you much joy on your journey.

Thank you to God for answering my prayers and keeping you safe.

I would be remiss if I did not thank the workers of the Department of Public Works for a great job on the streets and roadsides. Everywhere looks clean and beautiful.

Last, I cannot thank Oracle Team USA enough for mentoring Team BDA.
