Thank you for my ‘daily fix’ of island

Dear Sir,

Have just finished reading the article “AC35 has transformed Bermuda” (The Royal Gazette, June 20) and all I could think of was the quote by Robert Burns: “Oh, to have the gift given to us, to see ourselves as others see us.”

I know this is simplified, but I often think how this applies to my country, the United States, as well as myself — sometimes when I feel inappropriately dressed, for example.

Giles English’s observations of all the positive changes, in two years, as he described the conditions of the buildings on his way to the Dockyard, was impressive. I would love to see Dockyard now, but life-altering events have necessitated my inability to return to “My Island in the Sun”.

I used to sing this to myself at every departure from Bermuda back to New Jersey.

Thank you for enabling us to read your paper, online, and get my “daily fix” of Bermuda.
