Founding PLP members seem largely forgotten

The plaque commemorating the founding members of the PLP

Dear Sir,

This is not a political advert, nor is it to be taken out of context, but I came across a bit of history that I found to be very interesting.

I saw a plaque with the names of ten men, with the heading “Key Founding members of the Bermuda Progressive Labour Party, February 1963”.

I attach it for your information.

What I found interesting was that these people seem to be almost unknown to the general population and, of the ten, there is only one survivor.

His name is Eugene Woods. We always seem to blame others for the lack of knowledge of our history, but we are at fault to a great extent. My mother had a sign in our house when I was young. It read: “Give me my flowers while I live.”

Flowers to the lone survivor.
