Dear Sir,

On November 27 as I visited the hospital as a patient and I had one of the most amazing experiences of my long life.

Apart from not being able to remember what I had for breakfast, or

if I even had breakfast, the experience is imprinted in my mind as exemplary.

I made a careful note of nurses’ names, doctors and an anaesthetist so that I could mention their names in this letter and get it printed in what I call “The People’s Page” in The Royal Gazette. But the levels of kindness and professionalism knew no bounds, and I realised I could not pick one above the other.

So I needed to give praise to a team who displayed the essence of their love for their chosen profession.

Being as old as I am, and having travelled all over the world, trained at Guy’s Hospital in London, England, I could write a book. But a small chapter when I was 21 during the London Blitz made me understand how privileged I was to be put in the path of history and to practise my chosen profession and destiny — born a nurse, always a nurse.

The various departments I visited — emergency, surgical and outpatients — were all exemplary and staffed by brave people who come from all over the world.

Bermuda, this darling little island, is indeed most fortunate to gather such a team to serve the community.

Well done all of you. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
