Ex-motorcycle racer starts delivery service

Express delivery: Antoine Richards

A former professional motorcycle racer has got off the grid in Bermuda with a delivery service.

Antoine Richards, has launched Pro.ficient Moto Taxi & Delivery — which promises to deliver take out orders hot and fresh.

Now he has linked up with Rotisserie Grill in Smith’s for a pilot scheme running this week to fine tune the service.

Mr Richards, the island’s first pro bike racer, said: “Pro.ficient is my start up — we’ve launched in Bermuda and right now we doing a takeout delivery service.

“It’s a bare bones approach to takeout delivery — the customer calls a rider, arranges for the rider to pick up the food and, for very simple pricing, the food is delivered.”

Mr Richards said he had contacted restaurants around the island to promote the new service.

He added: “As of next week, we will be fully operational.

“It’s a stand-alone service. It doesn’t require anything from the restaurants — I’m not charging the restaurants for anything.

“I would like restaurants to buy in for co-marketing purposes, but it means no change for the restaurants.

“I’ve got a list of a good 12 restaurants between Hamilton and Smith’s we will be talking to this week.

“I’m expanding right now. By the time people find out what I’m trying to do, we will already be fully developed in Hamilton.”

Mr Richards added that he had plans to increase the range of services from Pro.ficient in the future — including a motorcycle moto taxi service.

He explained that taxi drivers could be reluctant to take on shorter journeys, while a single passenger could find the cost of a taxi prohibitive.

He added: “I would like to be able to offer the taxi kind of thing year round.

“Moto taxis have potential for getting people from point A to point B if they are travelling by themselves.”

Mr Richards moved into the delivery business after a June start using motorcycles to transport tourists around St George’s — a seasonal business.

He said: “We set up a booth at Tobacco Bay offering 15-minute photo tours around St George’s for tourists.

“They were missing out on the real sights and sounds of St George’s by basically going from the ferry to the beach.

“People who took the tours absolutely loved it. They said it was a great experience being on a motorbike but being safe — all the drivers are trained.”
