Sponsored Twizys for Covid-19 frontline workers
Almost 60 frontline workers involved in the battle against Covid-19 have been provided with free transport through a sponsorship programme launched by Current Vehicles.
Piers Carr, founder and chief executive officer of the electric rental car pioneers, reached out to the business community with the idea a week ago.
He said: “We got a really great and fast response from a number of companies who wanted to get behind this.”
Already, Argus, One Communications, Aspen Re, Chubb, Harbour Realty, Clarien, Ed Broking, Uber Super Duper, and a private individual from Warwick Academy have sponsored a vehicle, or vehicles, for a month.
For every sponsored Twizy, Current Vehicles sponsors another one.
Mr Carr said: “Between them all, and including our support, close to 60 vehicles have been sponsored. It has been a really great effort.”
The company informed frontline workers about the programme via its social media channels and has received almost 200 applications for free use of a Twizy. Some 70 per cent of applicants are employees of Bermuda Hospitals Board, Mr Carr said.
The Current boss said nearly all of the sponsored vehicles have been picked up.
He said: “You can really gauge the sense of relief from those that have picked up vehicles so far. A lot of them say they were taking taxis to and from work.”
Mr Carr added: “We are going to continue the programme, we are definitely looking for more sponsorship right now.”
He said companies interested in sponsoring a vehicle can contact Current at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Frontline workers needing transportation are advised to apply to the programme at currentvehicles.com/frontline.
