Racing and free family fun at Southside

The island’s motorsports clubs have joined forces to host an action-packed, family friendly open day at the Rubis Southside Raceway in St David’s on Sunday.

The inaugural Bermuda Motorsports Expo is the culmination of the Bermuda Karting Club, Bermuda Motorcycle Racing Club, Bermuda Motocross Club and Bermuda Power Boat Association coming together to put on an event where the public can watch demonstrations, take part themselves and find out more about getting involved.

Each discipline will have a display and there will be fun-kart and minibike demonstrations. The expo takes place from noon to 5pm, is free and also features a fun castle and food vendors. “It’s the first time we’ve all come together for this,” said Bermuda Karting Club president Scott “Skitchy” Barnes. “I want to see all the clubs grow — it’s good to see.

“We will have our fun karts available for adults and kids, the minibikes will be available and we’ll be doing some drag racing as well. There will be kart versus kart and kart versus bikes, and we’re also going to have a club versus club race in the fun karts.

“Anyone who’s interested can come down and see what we’re all about. Kids will have the chance to try out karts and bikes. I’m looking forward to a good day. It’s going to be a lot of fun and it’s free to come down; a perfect day for families.”
