The title race is still wide open in three classes as the Bermuda Karting Club series enters the business end of the season.

Although Scott “Skitchy” Barnes, the BKC president, has all but sewn up the Shifter class and the L206 Seniors, as has Ryan Burgess in the Tag Juniors, there is still plenty to race for in the Cadets, Tag Seniors and the L20G Masters.

Barnes continued his dominance in the Shifters at the Rubis Southside Raceway in St David’s last weekend, completing a clean sweep in his three heats.

He also won a heat in the L206 Seniors before adding two second-place finishes to maintain his stranglehold for top honours.

It was also a satisfying weekend for Simos Charalambous, who chalked up a win and two second-place finishes in the L206 Seniors. Another driver enjoying three wins was Burgess in the Tag Juniors, although the gap is getting closer between the series leader and Jorja Thomas and Ashley Horseman, according to Barnes.

“Ryan reasserted his dominance but the gap is not as big as it used to be,” Barnes said. “The girls [Thomas and Horseman] are definitely getting faster.”

Travis Lewis snared three wins in the L206 Masters, although Jeff Sousa continues to bite at his heels with a couple of seconds and a third place.

In the Tag Seniors, David Selley capped off a rare appearance with a pair of victories after Jason “Skuzzie” North claimed the opening heat.

“David’s a longtime driver and it was good to see him back out,” Barnes added: “He was on a little fresher rubber than everyone else.

“It’s a really competitive class and there’s been a lot of different winners this season.”

Meanwhile, the Cadet class saw Nathan DeCosta pick up two wins, while Nile Bean added to his tally of chequered flags this season. With three race days remaining, Barnes is predicting some enthralling action to come.

“Out of the six classes, I’d say three of them are strong lock holds for the leaders,” he added, “but there’s still time for guys to make some moves. There’s also lots of battles going for second and third [in each class].”
