Team Bermuda finished 29th out of 40 professional teams in the 24 Hours of Italy at the Adria Karting Raceway in Northern Italy yesterday.

The eight-man outfit, featuring Scott Barnes, David Barbosa, Mark Selley, David Selley, Jeff Sousa, Ryan Lopes, Blake Horseman and Owen DeCosta were competing in their first endurance race.

It was also their first time competing in Europe.

“Just finished the last hour stint in the kart to wrap up Team Bermuda’s first ever 24-hour endurance race here in Italy,” Barnes wrote on Facebook yesterday.

“Not the result we were looking for, first time learning curve ... will be better next time. But WOW what an experience, these Europeans are no joke!

“Couldn’t be more proud of the team — David Barbosa, Blake Horseman, Ryan Lopes, Mark Selley, David Selley, Jeff Sousa and Owen DeCosta pushed hard for 24 hours and I couldn’t be more honoured to be a part of the Team!

“Can’t thank David Barbosa and Kellie Pereira Barbosa enough for making this trip possible and the opportunity to get to do this. Thank you guys and thanks to the whole team for helping this weekend!

Run by the CRG factory, the event is one of the most prestigious in the karting world.

Drivers had to rotate throughout the 24-hour race, completing laps for 45-minute stints in the CRG Centurion karts, equipped with Honda 390cc engines, with each team having to perform a minimum of 25 pitstops.
