BTA teams up with Uber for trip offer

Bermuda’s latest online marketing campaign has tallied its impact across the landscape of social media.

A partnership with transport giant Uber generated 800,000 Twitter impressions for the initiative #BermudaSummerFridays, along with 11,500 Instagram likes. New Yorkers got a glimpse of how short a trip to Bermuda could be, through the Summer Friday Escape launched this month.

Travel and Leisure magazine took note of the offer, which went out to about 50,000 people, offering a trip the next day ­— Friday — including two nights at the Hamilton Princess.

Summer Friday spells a Friday afternoon off for a lucky bracket of workers in New York and other gateway cities.

Their demographic is said by the Bermuda Tourism Authority to be consistent with the “younger traveller from New York” trend in the first-quarter air arrival figures of this year.

The recipients were picked through their Uber apps, aimed at spreading the word that Bermuda is a 90-minute flight away.
