Family Centre to host Lip Sync competition

Family Centre is hoping to raise $50,000 by organising another “Lip Sync” competition which proved highly popular last year when run as part of the charity’s Children Come First Telethon.

This time the contest will be open to the public. Individuals or teams are asked to submit their lip sync videos to familycentrebda@gmail.com by Friday, September 16.

Each person or team will need to set up with a personalised fundraising page which they can use to encourage people to vote for their video through donations of any size.

The videos with the most funds raised, and some select “fan favourites”, will advance to a live event taking place on November 3 at the Fairmont Southampton Mid Ocean Amphitheatre. Those advancing through will be announced on September 30. The money raised will support Family Centre’s various programmes and services.

Last year eight teams entered the competition, with Arch Angels of Arch Re declared the winners with their performance of Lose My Breath by Destiny’s Child.

Each year Family Centre supports hundreds of children and families in Bermuda through its training and advocacy, community programmes and intensive counselling services.

Executive Director of Family Centre, Martha Dismont, said: “We are very grateful to the team of people who are helping to make this event a reality this year, including Lindo’s Group of Companies, which has agreed to assist us with marketing the event. The Lip Sync part of our 2015 Telethon was a huge success, and we are pleased to partner with the winning team from 2015, the Arch Angels, and our incredible organiser Julia Mather and her team, to make sure we raise the dollars needed to support Family Centre services.”

One member of the winning Arch Angels group said: “To be a part of Family Centre’s fundraising success was truly an honour. We appreciate and support Family Centre’s efforts in strengthening the family structure to sustain a brighter and better Bermuda. It’s not every day that we can let our hair down for a great cause. Therefore, we strongly encourage other organisations to tap into their creative side and get involved.”
