A 14-year-old girl, named today by police as Dennikia Lambert, has been killed after an SUV and a motorcycle crashed in Devonshire last night.

The car overturned at the roundabout of Dock Hill, Frog Lane and Palmetto Road, at about 8pm.

Police this afternoon confirmed that Ms Lambert was the passenger in the car. She was pronounced dead at 8.20pm.

The motorcyclist, said to be a 21-year-old man from Pembroke, and the female driver of the car, in her early sixties, were also hurt, and remain in hospital, with injuries that are not believed to be life threatening.

According to witnesses, the car crashed into a tree, snapping it in half, before careering on to the traffic island.

Debris remained at the roundabout this morning.

One man who was driving in the area just minutes before the collision spoke to this newspaper.

“I ran down the road and saw the guy lying in the road next to the island. He was lying motionless for a long time. About 50 people had gathered around the scene: they were screaming and hollering as the man was lying in the road,” he said.

“The police eventually moved them all along. It was horrifying.”

The area, which now contains a large amount of debris, has been cordoned off while police launch an investigation. Anyone with information should call police on 295-0011.

Update: This article stated initially that the victim was a 12-year-old girl, but was amended after the Bermuda Police Service corrected the information it supplied to the media.
