Restaurant closes after fire

Reopening today: Bermy Cuisine (Photograph by Akil Simmons)

A small fire at Bermy Cuisine forced the Hamilton restaurant to shut its doors yesterday morning, but it is to reopen today.

Owner Horace Tucker said that the fire began in the kitchen just minutes before the restaurant was set to open for the day.

“We open up at 6am,” he said.

“At about 5.50am the cook was setting up, getting everything prepared for the day when the deep fryer caught on fire. Fortunately enough he was able to quickly extinguish it with a fire extinguisher so there was no damage to the structure.

“However, the contents of the fire extinguisher went everywhere, so basically we’re spending the whole day cleaning up.”

Mr Tucker has apologised for any inconvenience caused to his customers, but assured the public that the restaurant will be up and running again, with business as usual this morning.
