Dunkley sets date for Throne Speech

Premier Michael Dunkley

Premier Michael Dunkley has has notified the Speaker of the House that this year’s Throne Speech, marking the reconvening of Parliament, will take place on November 4 — an earlier date than has been the tradition.

Government had forewarned that two sittings of Parliament in September to address outstanding legislation would be needed.

However, in a statement released this afternoon, Government said those sittings had been cancelled.

“Due to progress being made over the summer with the Government and stakeholders on some policy matters, and continued legislative drafting it is the viewed that any legislative matters that were to be addressed during a September meeting can be dealt with when the House of Assembly convenes in November,” added the statement.

“It is the intention of Government to return to Parliament with significant, strong and robust legislative items aimed at progressing Bermuda forward.”
