A Bermuda-based charity is preparing to send a container of vital supplies to Haiti to help those affected by the devastation caused by Hurricane Matthew.

The Feed My Lambs Ministry, which runs an orphanage, school and clinic for about 700 children in Montrouis in western Haiti, is planning to send the container from Bermuda later this week.

The group’s founder, Phillip Rego, has already helped organise for a huge container of food to be sent to Haiti from the United States thanks to generous donations.

Now Mr Rego, who returned to Bermuda just before Hurricane Nicole hit the island, is hoping Bermudian residents will also step up to the plate to help the people of Haiti. “The need is so great at the moment in Haiti,” he said. “Even before Hurricane Matthew the need was great, so it is even more needed now.

“We are working this week on what exactly we will be filling the Bermuda container with.

“We want to really focus on what the most important items are for the people there at the moment.

“I’m not limiting myself to just the one container but I hope people here in Bermuda will help drive the project and we can send maybe two or three containers of goods.”

If you would like to help Mr Rego donations can be made to the Feed My Lambs Ministry’s HSBC account of 010 876795501.
