Bermuda’s seniors were treated to gifts and Christmas carols thanks to the generosity of CedarBridge Academy students.

Marynette Stamp, personal assistant to the Deputy Governor, Ginny Ferson, came up with the idea of students attending her daughter’s school to donate “bags of love” to the elderly and e-mailed the principal Kalmar Richards to spread the word.

The school pupils did not disappoint, bringing in enough gifts, mainly toiletries and useful items, to fill 22 individual gift bags as well as two boxes of extra presents.

Five students delivered the bags and one of the boxes to the Matilda Smith Williams Senior Residence and one large box to the Francis Telford Nursing Home.

They sang Christmas carols to the seniors at both homes as well as those in King Edward VII Memorial Hospital.

Ms Stamp told The Royal Gazette: “The students did an extremely good job, it was overwhelming to me. They brought toiletries, soaps, toothpaste, powders, lotions — things that the seniors need. They gave them in little red and green Christmas bags — I like to call them bags of love.

“I thought it was a good idea because sharing is caring and this is the season to do it. The students sang and they went around and talked to the residents, asking them what they wanted for Christmas. They were very good, I was very impressed.

“The seniors were happy and they were anxious to get the little chocolates on the outside of the bags. They responded very well and those who could speak said ‘thank you’ and had smiles on their faces.”
