Eight police officers have combined to raise more than $5,000 after taking part in the Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre’s ‘Movember’ men’s health awareness campaign.

During the November fundraiser, Detective Superintendent Sean Field-Lament as well as a team of seven constables consisting of Daniel Cole, Anthony Smith, Khalid Pitcher, David McHugh, Ralshon Douglas, Michael Charlton and Christopher Rodrigues, grew moustaches in support of the charity.

The men raised a total of $5,225 with Mr Field-Lament being recognised as the top MoBro fundraiser, contributing $3,670.

“I am just happy to support this worthy cause,” Mr Field-Lament said. “Two of the most beautiful people I know, my sister Nicole and my cousin Sara, are cancer survivors. I have another cousin, Maureen, who is currently fighting this insidious disease. I am constantly inspired by their grace and courage. Hopefully we can raise awareness further and help find a solution.

“We took part in the event to increase men’s health awareness and to help in raising funds for the radiation therapy initiative in Bermuda. We feel it is a very important cause and we are happy to assist in any way possible. We exceeded our goal in raising over $1,500 for the charity, which we are very proud of.”

Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre (BCHC) applauded the men’s efforts.

“Men experience worse longer-term health than women and die on average six years earlier,” said Deborah Titterton Narraway, PR and Fundraising Manager at Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre.

“By participating and growing a Mo, the members of the BPS, along with all MoBros, start an important and much needed conversation with their families and friends about the importance of routine health checks and health issues facing men”

“This year the funds raised will support the new radiation therapy facility due to open mid-2017 as well as continuing to support the annual Men’s Health Screening Clinic and Men’s Health Voucher programme.”
