The dedication of a replica sailing gig formed the backdrop to this year’s Seafarers’ Service at the weekend.

The gig, built by craftsman Michael Hooper, was dedicated “in memory of all who served these islands of Bermuda in piloting and other maritime occupations”.

Serving Branch Pilots joined choristers, Canon David Raths and the Bishop of Bermuda, Nicholas Dill, for the packed service at the Chapel of Ease in St George’s.

During Sunday’s service a wreath was dedicated and later taken out to sea on the pilot boat.
