St John Ambulance has been given a $45,000 boost by a Bermuda based reinsurance company.

The money was donated by Validus Holdings to help purchase a new ambulance for the charity.

“Validus is committed to continuing to help our local community in Bermuda,” Validus chairman and CEO Ed Noonan stated.

“We are honoured to be supporting St John Ambulance Bermuda in their important mission of attending to the first aid needs of the people of Bermuda.

“We thank St John Ambulance for all they have done for the community and are proud to provide them with this donation.”

The charity was also given a $10,000 donation by insurance brokers and risk managers Marsh, and risk and reinsurance specialist Guy Carpenter.

Deputy commissioner Jeffrey Borges thanked Marsh and Guy Carpenter “for their generous contribution” on behalf of the charity.

He added that the funds were used to outfit a new ambulance, which was unveiled last night by Governor John Rankin at a ribbon-cutting ceremony, with high-tech emergency equipment and supplies.

Jill Husbands, country corporate officer of Marsh & McLennan Companies, Bermuda and chairman of MMC’s Bermuda Corporate Social Responsibility Committee, added: “We are delighted that our donation has helped to put a new ambulance on the road and provide vital equipment that can be used at community events across the island.

“St John Ambulance provides crucial first-aid support that can often save lives, and we are delighted to support this important charity.”
