Manuel Lenfat has faced an uphill battle this weekend — but plenty of friends and family have turned out to support him.

To raise money for children’s cycling safety, the chief risk officer at Arch Re set himself the challenge of cycling uphill along South Shore Road from Williams Estate Road to St Mark’s Road 200 times, beginning on Saturday afternoon at 1pm, through the night, finishing up today.

His young son Roman has also been enthusiastically cycling with him, and his family camped out overnight in the car park at St Mark’s Church.

Several friends also came out for the ride, including one who joined Mr Lenfat at 3am.

The sponsor is Arch Re and the challenge is in collaboration with the Bermuda Cycling Academy. A group of youngsters from the academy came out and cycled with him yesterday.

According to his partner, Wendra Collet, more than $1,000 had been raised this morning, but donations were still coming in.

Winners Edge are also offering a discount on cycle helmets towards his effort.
