The innovators of tomorrow showcased hours of hard work this week as part of Warwick Academy’s science project competition.

The Year 9 students were tasked with coming up with their own project and then testing a series of hypotheses and evaluating their results.

They explored a range of topics from the science of making ice cream to the effect texting has on your driving and even whether age and gender affected your short-term memory.

The projects were all put on display in the school’s hall this week for students, teachers and parents to see and the Year 9 pupils had to explain their projects to the judges.

Lucas Young, whose project focused on the effects of objects floating in salt water, said: “Coming up with the hypothesis was easy, but as the project progressed it became increasingly difficult because the accuracy became very important. It was lots of fun and very interesting.”

Jayson Outerbridge, who recently took part in the BIOS ROV competition, looked at what kind of fan blade was the most effective.

He said: “I had so much fun building the windmills to test the various types of blades.”
