A man found unconscious on a boat adrift in the West End has been pronounced dead, according to police.

A police spokesman said that at around 7.40pm last night, first responders received a report of a male in an unresponsive state in the Lagoon Park, Sandys area.

“Initial information suggests that an unconscious 55-year-old man, believed to be from Southampton, was found adrift aboard a boat in the waters just off Lagoon Road,” the spokesman said.

“Marine police assisted in bringing the vessel ashore, where emergency medical personnel commenced lifesaving efforts. However, the man was later pronounced dead at the scene by an on call doctor.”

The spokesman said no further details will be provided until the deceased’s next of kin are notified.
