Extra security for US passengers

Airline passengers travelling to the United States are being warned about increased security measures that could increase processing times at the airport.

The new screening requirements, issued by the Transportation Security Administration, take effect on Friday, and apply to all flights into the US.

“These new regulations require airport security to conduct additional screening of large electronic items at the passenger security checkpoint,” Bermuda Skyport Corporation Limited said in a release this afternoon.

“This will apply to all electronic devices such as tablets and laptop computers that are larger than a smartphone.”

Passengers are being advised to arrive at least two hours before their scheduled flight time to accommodate the new measure.

“We would like to encourage the public to co-operate with the new requirements and to arrive at the airport ahead of schedule to ensure seamless travel,” Mikaela Pearman, with Bermuda Skyport, said.

“Our security team will be available to help guide members of the public through the screening checkpoints as quickly and efficiently as possible.”
