A JetBlue flight that reported smoke in its avionics compartment diverted to the island last night and was able to resume its course after repairs.

The JetBlue airbus 320 had been on its way to Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic, with 152 on board and four hours of fuel remaining.

Landing shortly before 6pm, the pilot reported a strong electrical smell in the cockpit, and the Bermuda Fire and Rescue Service inspected the craft.

According to a Skyport airport duty officer, Menzies Aviation mechanics, the authorised service provider for JetBlue, resolved the issue and the aircraft was serviced for departure.

A new crew was flown in from New York and the aircraft, flight B6369, departed for Punta Cana at 11.47pm without further incident.
