Five recruit firefighters have returned from overseas training in Texas.

Christopher Clarke, Jordan Govia, Matthew Mills, Mahkye Steede and Amani Wears were part of a 21-day recruit boot camp at the Engineering Extension Service department of Texas A&M University.

Mr Clarke was named Most Outstanding Recruit firefighter for the course.

The recruit course began in April, and included training in practical assessments by Bermuda Fire and Rescue Service instructors before the Texas camp.

The course was designed to provide them with the knowledge and skills necessary to obtain certification at firefighter levels one and two.

The boot camp portion consisted of classroom and hands-on field application training.
