Tributes were paid in the House of Assembly on Friday to Margaret Vaucrosson, a former nurse and dedicated volunteer, who has died at the age of 81.

The co-founder of the Eliza DoLittle Society, a charity offering food for the needy, Ms Vaucrosson is also credited with naming the cancer charity Pals — the Patients Assistance and League Service.

New One Bermuda Alliance leader and former health minister Jeanne Atherden told MPs: “For me, Margaret was that nurse at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital who made sure that a lot of things got done — when she stepped down, she still carried out a health role.”

Originally from London, Ontario, Ms Vaucrosson started her nursing career at the city’s St Joseph’s Hospital.

Active in the Lions and Lioness Clubs, the Girl Guides and the Red Cross, Ms Vaucrosson also volunteered for Mount St Agnes Academy and St Theresa’s Cathedral.

She was also a keen bridge player, along with her late husband, lawyer Charles Vaucrosson.

Ms Vaucrosson died at home last month in London, Ontario.
