A contract diver working on seawall repairs on Front Street was injured and taken to hospital this morning.

A spokeswoman for the City of Hamilton said the diver was hurt by a piece of equipment at about 11.30am.

She added: “The incident is under investigation and the city can confirm that no City of Hamilton staff were injured or involved.

“The city will update with any further details as they become known.”

There was no comment available from police and work continued at the construction site this afternoon.

The repairs to the east-facing seawall by the Hamilton Ferry Terminal and the Flagpole area on Front Street were announced last week.

The spokeswoman said the work was expected to be completed by April 20.
