Lindo’s races cancelled for this year

Called off: Lindo's to Lindo's races (File photograph)

This year’s Lindo’s to Lindo’s races in support of the Bermuda Diabetes Association have had to be cancelled, organisers announced today.

Originally set to take place yesterday, the races had to be called off because of the weekend’s story weather and rescheduled for May 13.

However, after feedback, Lindo’s opted not to hold the event on a weekend with another sporting event, to avoid detracting from any other fundraising.

The company offered a “symbolic number, goodie bag and T-shirt pick-up” for this Saturday between 10am and 12.30pm at the National Stadium Cricket Pavilion for persons who have registered.

Zach Moniz, manager at Lindo’s Family Foods, said the company hoped that entrants would come to the pick-up in lieu of requesting a refund.

Mr Moniz added: “The Bermuda Diabetes Association faces a difficult fight and every dollar counts.

“We also hope that those who were planning to take part will try to find the time to undertake the four-mile walk or run in a time and place of their choosing.”

Mr Moniz said the company had been left “very disappointed” at the decision, but had been unable to find a new date that did not clash with another event.

The Lindo’s to Lindo’s was aimed at encouraging exercise as well as raising funds for the Bermuda Diabetes Association’s education programmes and the renovation of a building purchased to house a fully comprehensive Diabetes Resource Centre.
